The body of a woman in her sixties was located in the Watlington Hill National Trust Estate.
Thames Valley Police launched a murder investigation after the discovery of a woman's body at around 5.53pm yesterday.
A 23-year old man has been located and arrested on suspicion of murder.
Police say he remains in the custody, but has been taken to hospital for treatment for 'serious injuries’ where he is currently in a stable condition.
Officers believe that this was not a random attack and that the victim and the attacker were known to each other.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Superintendent Craig Kirby of the Major Crime Unit, said: “My thoughts remain with the deceased woman’s family at what must be a hugely distressing time.
“We are carrying out a thorough investigation to piece together what has happened to lead to this woman’s death."
Detective Superintendent Craig Kirby said Police were now appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen something suspicious in the Watlington Hill area, to come forward and help with the investigation.
He added: “At this stage we are also tentatively linking this incident to reports of a man acting suspiciously near the Fox and Hounds pub in the Christmas Common area of Watlington at around 3.30pm this evening.
“As such we are also asking anyone who may have seen a man acting suspiciously in this area or anyone who believes they have information that they think could assist us in our investigation to please get in touch."
Thames Valley Police said a ‘number of scenes’ will remain in place in the Christmas Common area whilst they continue to investigate the woman’s death.
A statement by the force added: “Members of the public will see an increased presence whilst we continue to investigate If anyone has any concerns about this incident or even information they would like to pass on they can speak to one of our uniformed officers.”
